Strath Haven HS Named Among 10 Area Schools Receiving Blue Ribbon Honors

U.S. Secretary of education John King designated Strath Haven High School and 9 other area schools as winners of the 2016 National Blue Ribbon of excellence.

Only 329 schools across the nation were singled out for this prestigious honor. Schools win the honor for excellence in academics or for their work in narrowing the achievement gap among groups of students. Wissahickon High School was the only other high school in the area named as an award winner.

In the past Nether Providence Elementary, Swarthmore-Rutledge, Wallingford Elementary, and Strath Haven High School have all been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence.

Strath Haven High School has also been recognized as one of “America’s Outstanding High Schools” by US News & World Report and Newsweek magazines.

Home sales prices in the nation’s largest metros typically peak during the summer but drop in the fall and are lowest in the winter, according to a new study from NerdWallet, in which researchers analyzed sales and listings over the past two years in the 50 largest metros using realtor.com® data.

Home sale prices tend to peak in June and July, according to the analysis. Buyers will find the most inventory or home choices during those months but there is also more competition from other buyers that they will have to contend with.

The market tends to slow in the fall and sales prices start to dip. Sales prices drop nearly 3%, on average – a fall of $8,300 on the median home – from summer (June through August) to fall (September through November).

Home sale prices tend to be cheapest in the winter. In January or February, for example, homes could potentially cost 8.45% less on average than in June through August.

Home flipping zoomed to a six-year high in the second quarter of 2016, as more investors eyed properties to spruce up and turn over for a quick resale.

A total of 51,434 single-family homes and condo sales were completed flips in the second quarter of this year, up 14% from the previous quarter and up 3% from a year ago. It is the highest number of home flips since the second quarter of 2010, according to the 2nd Quarter 2016 U.S. Home Flipping Report, released by ATTOM Data Solutions.

Homes flipped in the second quarter accounted for 5.5% of all single-family and condo sales. Memphis, TN had the highest percentage of flipped properties at 11.1%.
